An Infrared transmission system is a good alternative to an Induction loop system where privacy is a factor.
An infrared modulator radiator converts an audio input and emits the signal in the form of infrared light. Users wear an IR receiver with either a headset or neck worn lanyard style loop adaptor to 'hear' the processed audio.
As light cannot travel through solid objects, the audio cannot be picked up unless the receiver is in line of sight of the transmitter. This makes infrared hearing systems ideal for use in (window-free) courtrooms and corporate meeting rooms where confidential information may be discussed.
As no cable loop or hard wiring between transmitter and receiver is required, this type of system usually has much lower installation costs than an induction loop system. It's also an ideal assistive listening solution for listed or historic buildings where wiring installation would not be permitted.
The drawback is that receivers need to be kept charged, ready for use. They also need handing out & collecting from users at the end of the event.
