They are speakers built for jobs a standard ceiling or cabinet cannot do. This page features surface exciters, ultrasonic directional speakers, landscape / garden speakers, in-ground speakers, ceiling-tile panels and submersible underwater loudspeakers.
A sound-panel tile drops into a 600 × 600 mm suspended ceiling grid so the speaker looks like the ceiling, not a grille. It suits offices and public interiors where a conventional cut-out speaker would spoil the architecture. Some panels are made to match a specific tile finish.
An exciter bolts to glass or another rigid surface and turns that surface into the loudspeaker. There is no visible box. Typical uses are retail windows, display glass and architectural panels where a cabinet cannot be seen.
It focuses sound into a narrow beam so one person hears a message whilst anyone in the area next to them does not. Useful in retail, museums, transport hubs and theme parks for zone-specific audio without flooding the whole room.
When the speaker must sit within planting areas, on a patio edge or around a leisure garden and survive weather. Landscape cabinets are two-way outdoor speakers with a proper IP rating (for example IP56). They are for gardens and paths, but not for swimming-pool immersion.
It installs in the ground along a path or boundary so coverage comes from below rather than from a wall. Some models are network-addressable for large outdoor sites. Unobtrusive for use in parks, campuses and landscape schemes where posts and cabinets would be unsightly.
Submersible speakers are built and sealed for immersion (IP68 in this range) and are used in pools, ideal for diving instruction or synchronised swimming. A weatherproof garden speaker is not an underwater speaker. Underwater models are usually low-impedance and need an amplifier and cable rated for that install.
A standard ceiling speaker cannot vanish into a tile grid, excite glass, throw a tight audio beam, sit in a flower bed, be set into a path or play under water. Special-application models exist because the environment or the mounting method is the constraint, not just the wattage.
It depends on the type. Garden speakers often offer 70/100V and low-Z taps for distributed outdoor systems. Exciters, directional emitters and underwater speakers are more often low-impedance and need a matching amplifier. Always check the product page before you plan the circuit.
