It is a slave amplifier that drives 100V (or 70V) loudspeaker lines. There is no mixer in the box — you feed it from a pre-amp mixer, matrix or paging system. These amps are the workhorses of BGM and PA in shops, offices, hotels, schools, warehouses and transport hubs.
A mixer-amp mixes mics and music and powers the speakers. A 100V power amp only amplifies. Use a mixer-amp for a small one-box job. Use a separate 100V power amp when the mixer or matrix already exists, you need more watts, or each zone needs its own amplifier.
100V line lets you run many speakers on long cables with less loss and simpler parallel wiring. Each speaker is set to a wattage tap. Low-Z amps suit a few cabinets close to the rack. Add up every speaker tap on that circuit, then allow about 20% headroom. Example: ten speakers at 6 W is 60 W of load — a 120 W amp is a safer choice than a 60 W amp running flat out. Large warehouses and multi-floor jobs often need 240 W, 480 W or multi-channel amps.
Each channel can drive a different zone at its own level — shop floor, stockroom, restaurant, car park. One four-channel chassis can replace several single-channel amps and saves rack space. Keep each zone’s speaker load within that channel’s rating.
On a conventional multi-channel amp, each channel has a set power output, eg 4 x 250 Watts. In a Power Sharing amplifier the total output power can be split unevenly between its output channels as long as the sum of all channels stays within the amplifier’s total rating.
This is useful in real buildings: a shop floor and restaurant may need more power than a corridor, office or toilet area. One multi-channel power sharing amp can then cover mixed 100V (or low-Z) zones without buying a larger amp just to suit the busiest area.
Different manufacturers have a different name for power sharing such as ‘asymmetrical’, ‘powerTANK’ or ‘VersaPower’.
How it is implemented varies by range. On some digital 100V amps the supply automatically sends spare capacity to the channel that is working harder. On others you assign a maximum wattage per output in the software. A few models share only across odd/even channel pairs, not across every output. Always check the product page: sharing may apply in low-Z only, in 70/100V only, or in both.

Dante carries the audio to the amp over the IT network instead of analogue cables. That simplifies multi-zone routing, remote monitoring and large buildings. You still need a Dante-enabled mixer or matrix as the source, and a properly designed network.
“Slave” means it has no microphone mixer — it follows whatever line-level signal you send it. That is the normal 100V power amp in an install rack. Volume and source selection stay on the mixer, matrix or wall plate.
It can drive paging and BGM speaker lines. Certified voice-alarm systems need approved EN54-16 compliant amplifiers, line monitoring and EN54-24 speakers. A general commercial 100V amp is not automatically a life-safety amplifier unless the specification says it is.
