Fitness Audio Headworn Microphones: Emic, Emic XL, Aeromic and Cyclemic
A range of gym and fitness headset microphones built for HIIT, spin, Zumba , Body Pump and more! Compatible with almost any brand of bodypack transmitter thanks to clever tech in the T3 / T4 MultiMic connector. TRS also available.
If you teach group fitness, you already know the sound of a dying headset: a crackle mid-track in Body Pump, a drooping boom in Boxercise, a green connector after a month of HIIT, Zumba and spin. Most “fitness” headsets were designed for presenters in air-conditioned rooms. They are not built for a gym instructor sweating through a full timetable.
Fitness Audio head worn mics, hand-assembled in Australia since the mid-1990s, exist for that problem. Four models that cover almost every teaching brief. This guide sets out the differences — PhatFrame, Carbon Collar, low-sensitivity capsules — and the T3 / T4 MultiMic connector that lets one headset work with any brand using a TA3 or TA4F connection. (Also available with universal 3.5mm TRS jack.)
Why Ordinary Gym Headsets Fail Instructors
Generic headsets used in gyms by fitness instructors fail for the same reasons: sweat reaches the capsule and the mesh clogs; copper cable cores corrode; the connector dies first. High-sensitivity capsules howl with feedback the moment a Zumba or Body Pump playlist hits club volume. Frames rust and droop through Boxfit and HIIT. And brand-specific wiring means a particular brand of headset will not speak properly into a different brand of bodypack, so independent instructors who teach at two clubs need to buy two headsets. And Warranties usually exclude sweat and water damage.
Fitness Audio designed the opposite product: sealed capsules, no exposed metal, steel cables, sweat-protected connectors, and MultiMic wiring that works with any beltpack transmitter that the plug fits.
Emic and Emic XL: Everyday Studio Headset Microphones

The Emic is Fitness Audio’s “E for Exercise” model — a sweat-protected headworn microphone for independent fitness instructors and studios running two to three classes a day, up to around 20 a week. It is the ideal purpose built mic for most group fitness instructors.
The noise-cancelling, waterproof capsule holds up in lively rooms - Boxercise and Boxfit studios, circuit floors, dance-led sessions - and is equally at home in yoga, pilates, stretch and aqua fitness, or on a portable PA for outdoor bootcamps. The frame is sealed and reinforced, with an adjustable headband, steel cable, sweat-protected connector and epoxy-sealed boom joints that stop the familiar mid-class droop.
Emic XL is the same microphone with a boom around half an inch longer. Instructors with larger heads or a preference for a forward capsule position further often struggle with a short boom: the capsule sits too close to the cheek, picks up breath, or goes off-axis in a Boxercise combination or Body Pump track.
Choose XL when the standard boom does not quite reach; choose standard Emic for a more compact fit.
- Best for: Yoga, pilates, aqua, boxing, circuits
- Load: Up to 20 classes per week
- Daily use: 2 -3 classes per day
- Capsule: Noise-cancelling, waterproof
- Frame: Sealed, adjustable band (extended boom on XL)
- Sweat Death warranty: 12 months
- Connector: TRS or T3 / T4 MultiMic
Aeromic & Cyclemic: The Gold Standard Mic For High-Energy Group Fitness & Indoor Cycling
These mics take it to the next level and both have the same Low Sensitivity capsule, Carbon Collar, PhatFrame, steel cable, MultiMic connector and two-year "no-sweat" warranty. Built for high energy activity, not just keynote speeches!
PhatFrame: a one-piece, polymer-coated frame with no exposed metal and no joints to seize. It can be hand-moulded to the instructor’s head so the headset stays planted through burpees, press-ups and lateral shuffles.
Low-sensitivity capsule: The current LS series uses a strengthened low-sensitivity capsule. High-sensitivity mics are built for quiet rooms; in front of a loud gym stack they overload and feed back the moment the Zumba chorus hits. A low-sensitivity capsule is more blast-proof. It gives more usable loudness before feedback, sits more happily with studio DSPs, and stays intelligible when the music is doing the heavy lifting.
Carbon Collar: In front of the capsule sits an acoustically transparent Carbon Collar over double mesh. It stops sweat and spit soaking the mesh — the point at which a “working” mic starts to sound like it is under a towel.
The sealed LS capsule, Carbon Collar and double mesh create a triple capsule protection system. Add the all-steel cable and four-layer, shrink-wrapped connector and you have a complete sweat defence system that generic gym headsets do not have.
Aeromic: Built For High-Energy Group Fitness

The Aeromic is the headset most people mean when they talk about a proper fitness microphone. Hand-built in Australia and used by gym instructors worldwide since 1999, it is rated for the week that destroys ordinary headsets: up to seven classes a day, seven days a week, with a conditional two-year ‘Sweat Death’ / No Sweat warranty.
This is the full-time group fitness instructor’s mic — HIIT, Zumba, Body Pump, dance cardio, combat-style sessions and circuits that never sit still. Choose Aeromic if you teach standing group fitness and move around the room.
- Best for: HIIT, Zumba, Body Pump, group fitness
- Load: Up to 49+ classes per week
- Daily use: Up to 7 classes per day
- Capsule: Low sensitivity with Carbon collar
- Frame: PhatFrame, straight boom
- Sweat Death warranty: 2 Years
- Connector: TRS or T4 MultiMic
Cyclemic: Built for Spin, Group Cycling and the ‘Forward Lean’

Internally the same as the Aeromic but reshaped for the bike. Studio cycling instructors, indoor cycling coaches and spin teachers spend the class in a fixed, forward lean. They don’t bounce around and aerate the capsule the way a Zumba or HIIT instructor does. Sweat runs down a standard headband and pools at the boom — which is why ordinary headsets die first in the cycle studio.
The Cyclemic combats that with a J-curve boom that directs sweat off the frame instead of into the capsule. Choose Cyclemic for group cycling, spin or hot yoga.
- Best for: Spin, group cycling, hot yoga
- Load: Up to 49+ classes per week
- Daily use: Up to 7 classes per day
- Capsule: Low sensitivity with Carbon collar
- Frame: PhatFrame, J-curve boom
- Sweat Death warranty: 2 Years
- Connector: T4 MultiMic
A Note on the T3 and T4 MultiMic Connector
Different wireless brands use different mini-XLR wiring even though the plug looks identical. Until now, a headset wired for one manufacturer’s TA4F bodypack wouldn’t necessarily work with another brand’s pack despite having the same four-pin socket.
However, the Fitness Audio T3 and T4 MultiMic connectors remove that problem. If the plug on the headset fits the transmitter, the microphone works — regardless of the brand on the beltpack.
- T4 MultiMic (TA4F, four-pin). Fits Fitness Audio, Shure, Chiayo, Mipro, some TOA, JTS, EV, Telex and many other four-pin packs.
- T3 MultiMic (TA3F, three-pin). Fits LD Systems, AKG, Samson and similar three-pin transmitters.
- Locking 3.5 mm options are also available to fit Sennheiser, Trantec and some TOA beltpacks.
- Fitness Audio Mini Transmitters use their own specified termination — tell us if that is the pack on your belt.
For the freelance gym instructor, MultiMic is the way forward. For club operators, a shared pool of Aeromics and Cyclemics can move between rooms even if the wireless systems were installed in different years by different brands. That is how a headset range should work in a busy gym.
Which Headset Will You Choose?
Emic — two or three classes a day across yoga, Pilates, aqua, circuits, Boxercise, Boxfit or mixed group fitness.
Emic XL — everything the Emic does, with extra boom length for a larger head or a better line to the corner of the mouth.
Aeromic — you live on the timetable. HIIT, Zumba, Body Pump and high-sweat studio classes, with PhatFrame, Carbon Collar, low sensitivity and a two-year sweat warranty.
Cyclemic — spin, indoor cycling or group cycling as your main format — or hot yoga, where the still, forward posture creates the same sweat path.
A gym instructor’s voice makes the class. When the mic crackles on a climb, when feedback swallows a Boxfit combination, or when a Zumba cue disappears under the chorus, the room loses the person they came to follow. Fitness Audio built the Emic, Emic XL, Aeromic and Cyclemic so that does not happen.
