It is a permanent discussion system: a central unit, chairman and delegate stations, and gooseneck mics linked by cable. Boardrooms, council chambers, courtrooms, universities and assembly halls use it where the table layout is fixed.
Wired systems have no batteries and no radio to manage. They daisy-chain around the table and stay reliable for formal meetings. Wireless is better when the room is reconfigured regularly. Wired is better when the installation is permanent and the meetings are high-stakes.
A paging mic is a desk station for building-wide announcements. A conference system gives each seat its own mic, with a chairman who can take priority.
The chairman unit has priority — it can override other mics and control who speaks. Delegate units are for the other seats. Plan one chairman and one delegate per seat. A room of identical units has no meeting control.
